Story Walkthrough

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Complete Walkthrough

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix allows some flexibility in world order, but following a structured route keeps Sora properly equipped and reduces unnecessary backtracking. This walkthrough covers the main progression path while pointing out important side activities and easily missed upgrades.

1

Destiny Islands

Darkside
  • Choose Sora's starting weapon and the weapon to give up
  • Answer Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie's questions to determine the experience curve
  • Collect the requested raft supplies
  • Learn basic attacks, Lock-On, item use, and environmental interaction
  • Defeat Darkside and leave Destiny Islands

The weapon choice changes Sora's starting attributes and the levels at which several abilities are learned.

The three personality questions determine whether leveling is faster early, balanced, or faster later in the game.

2

Traverse Town - First Visit

Guard Armor
  • Explore the First, Second, and Third Districts
  • Meet Leon and learn more about the Keyblade and Heartless
  • Find Donald and Goofy
  • Defeat Guard Armor in the Third District
  • Form the main party and begin traveling with the Gummi Ship

Check shops before leaving to improve equipment and stock healing items.

Traverse Town becomes the main hub for shops, synthesis, Merlin's magic training, and several later story events.

3

Wonderland

Trickmaster
  • Enter the Rabbit Hole and reach the Queen's Castle
  • Investigate Alice's trial and collect evidence in the Lotus Forest
  • Return to the Queen's Castle and continue the trial sequence
  • Navigate the Bizarre Room and its altered orientations
  • Defeat Trickmaster

The Lotus Forest contains multiple exits and interactable objects that change the Bizarre Room.

Use nearby furniture and platforms to reach Trickmaster when it moves out of normal attack range.

4

Olympus Coliseum and Deep Jungle

ClaytonStealth Sneak
  • Visit Olympus Coliseum and complete Phil's introductory training
  • Enter Deep Jungle and reunite with Donald and Goofy
  • Help Tarzan investigate the gorillas and Clayton's actions
  • Travel between the Camp, Hippos' Lagoon, Vines, Tree House, and Climbing Trees
  • Defeat Clayton and Stealth Sneak
  • Seal the Deep Jungle Keyhole

Deep Jungle has several vertically connected areas, so use vines and climbing routes to move between the jungle floor and Tree House.

Completing Deep Jungle gives Sora access to Cure, one of the most important spells for the rest of the game.

5

Traverse Town - Second Visit

Opposite Armor
  • Return after completing the early Disney worlds
  • Work with Cid on the Gummi Ship navigation upgrade
  • Use newly available Trinity abilities to access additional areas
  • Reach the bell above the Gizmo Shop
  • Ring the bell three times to reveal the Traverse Town Keyhole
  • Defeat Opposite Armor and seal the Keyhole

Revisit previously explored districts because new Trinity abilities open shortcuts and treasure.

Merlin's house and the Item Workshop become increasingly important as more magic and synthesis materials are obtained.

6

Agrabah

Pot CentipedeCave of WondersJafarGenie Jafar
  • Meet Aladdin and rescue Jasmine
  • Explore Agrabah's streets and rooftops while unlocking passages
  • Travel to the Cave of Wonders
  • Defeat the Cave of Wonders guardian
  • Navigate the cave chambers and reach the Lamp Chamber
  • Defeat Jafar and then Genie Jafar
  • Seal Agrabah's Keyhole

Many Agrabah routes involve rooftop jumps and switches that open doors at street level.

During Genie Jafar, focus attacks on Iago while he carries Jafar's lamp.

7

Monstro

Parasite Cage
  • Enter Monstro after encountering it during Gummi Ship travel
  • Meet Pinocchio and Geppetto
  • Navigate the numbered Chambers
  • Follow Riku and Pinocchio deeper into Monstro
  • Defeat Parasite Cage twice
  • Escape Monstro and continue the search for Riku and Kairi

Monstro's numbered Chambers connect in a maze-like pattern, so use door numbers and treasure positions as landmarks.

High Jump greatly improves exploration and lets Sora reach previously inaccessible ledges.

8

Atlantica and Halloween Town

UrsulaOogie BoogieOogie's Manor
  • Help Ariel investigate Ursula's plans in Atlantica
  • Learn the underwater movement required to explore Atlantica
  • Defeat Ursula and seal Atlantica's Keyhole
  • Travel to Halloween Town and meet Jack Skellington
  • Investigate the artificial heart and Oogie Boogie's plan
  • Defeat Oogie Boogie and the transformed Oogie's Manor
  • Seal Halloween Town's Keyhole

Atlantica uses a unique swimming control scheme and replaces normal jumping with vertical swimming.

Halloween Town rewards careful exploration because several paths change as the story progresses.

9

Neverland

AntiSoraCaptain Hook
  • Escape confinement aboard Captain Hook's ship
  • Explore the ship with Peter Pan
  • Defeat AntiSora
  • Rescue Wendy and reach the ship's deck
  • Defeat Captain Hook
  • Travel to the Clock Tower
  • Seal Neverland's Keyhole

Sora gains the ability to fly while progressing through Neverland.

After completing Neverland, return later for Clock Tower treasures and the optional Phantom battle.

10

Hollow Bastion

MaleficentDragon MaleficentRiku-AnsemBehemoth
  • Enter Hollow Bastion with Beast after Riku takes the Keyblade
  • Navigate the Rising Falls, Castle Gates, Waterway, Library, Entrance Hall, and Lift Stop
  • Regain the Keyblade and reunite with Donald and Goofy
  • Defeat Maleficent
  • Defeat Dragon Maleficent
  • Defeat Riku while he is possessed by Ansem
  • Return to Traverse Town after the major story events
  • Revisit Hollow Bastion and defeat Behemoth
  • Seal Hollow Bastion's Keyhole

The Library contains movable books and switches needed to progress through the castle.

The Riku-Ansem fight prevents normal party support, making Dodge Roll, Guard, Cure, and steady combo timing especially important.

After sealing the Keyhole, additional endgame activities and Final Mix optional encounters become available.

11

End of the World

ChernabogAnsemDarksideWorld of Chaos
  • Enter End of the World after Hollow Bastion
  • Cross the fragmented world areas and reach the World Terminus
  • Fight through enemy encounters representing previously visited worlds
  • Defeat Chernabog
  • Reach Final Rest and prepare items and equipment before proceeding
  • Defeat Ansem, Seeker of Darkness through the final sequence of battles
  • Complete the game

Final Rest is the last major preparation point before the final boss sequence.

Equip healing items, defensive abilities, and your strongest practical Keyblade before proceeding.

Optional bosses, Coliseum challenges, synthesis, collectibles, and other endgame activities can be completed before entering the final sequence.

Beginner Guide

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Beginner Guide

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix mixes action combat with RPG progression, so early decisions and ability management can noticeably change how the game feels. New players should prioritize survivability, consistent healing, exploration abilities, and learning how to defend instead of relying only on long attack combos.

1

Choose Your Starting Weapon

  • Dream Sword emphasizes physical offense and offensive ability progression.
  • Dream Shield emphasizes defense and provides a more forgiving progression path for players who value survivability.
  • Dream Rod emphasizes magic-focused development and is useful for players planning to rely heavily on spells.
  • The weapon you give up also affects Sora's starting attributes.

For a straightforward first playthrough, Dream Shield is a practical choice because defensive tools become increasingly valuable during difficult boss fights.

2

Choose Your Leveling Pace

  • Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie ask Sora three questions on Destiny Islands.
  • Your answers determine Sora's experience progression curve.
  • The early-focused path gains levels faster during the first half of the game but requires more experience later.
  • The balanced path keeps experience requirements more even.
  • The late-focused path levels more slowly early but becomes faster at higher levels.

Choose based on when you want leveling to feel fastest; the questions do not permanently block abilities or content.

3

Master Lock-On, Dodge Roll, and Guard

  • Use Lock-On to keep the camera and attacks focused on important enemies.
  • Dodge Roll provides fast repositioning and invincibility during part of its animation.
  • Guard can block or deflect many frontal attacks once the ability is learned and equipped.
  • Successfully deflecting certain enemy attacks can create openings and award Tech Points.

Against bosses, defensive timing is usually safer than repeatedly finishing long ground combos.

4

Keep Cure Ready

  • Cure is obtained during the Deep Jungle storyline.
  • Assign frequently used magic to shortcut commands so it can be cast without navigating the full command menu.
  • Magic consumes MP, which refills through combat and other recovery methods.
  • Sora's maximum MP also contributes to the effectiveness of offensive and healing magic.

Place Cure on a shortcut immediately after unlocking it and avoid entering dangerous fights with no healing items.

5

Spend AP on Abilities That Matter

  • Abilities require AP to equip but can be freely enabled or disabled outside combat.
  • Movement and defensive abilities generally provide more value than situational combo modifiers early on.
  • Dodge Roll, Guard, Scan, Treasure Magnet, MP-related abilities, and later defensive abilities are especially useful.
  • Check the Abilities menu after leveling because newly learned abilities are not always equipped automatically.

Do not leave useful abilities unequipped just because Sora learned them; reorganize AP whenever new abilities become available.

6

Upgrade Equipment Instead of Hoarding It

  • Sora can equip different Keyblades as they are obtained through story progression and optional content.
  • Accessories modify attributes and can provide elemental resistance, AP, Strength, Defense, or other benefits.
  • Donald and Goofy can also equip weapons, accessories, and items.
  • Different Keyblades favor physical damage, magic, reach, critical hits, or balanced play.

Compare newly obtained Keyblades and accessories after every major world instead of automatically keeping old equipment.

7

Configure Donald and Goofy

  • The Customize menu controls how frequently party members use attacks, magic, defensive actions, and support abilities.
  • Donald can provide important healing and offensive magic.
  • Goofy can provide physical support and MP-related utility through his abilities.
  • Party members consume the items placed in their personal inventories.

Do not fill Donald and Goofy's inventories with valuable consumables unless you are comfortable with them being used automatically.

8

Revisit Old Worlds

  • New Trinity abilities and movement upgrades open paths that were inaccessible during earlier visits.
  • High Jump, Glide, and other movement upgrades make old treasure much easier to reach.
  • Traverse Town's Item Workshop expands the synthesis system as materials are collected.
  • Optional Coliseum cups and bosses provide powerful equipment and additional rewards.

Backtrack after major movement or Trinity upgrades rather than trying to collect everything on the first visit.

9

Prepare Before Major Bosses

  • Equip Cure and useful defensive abilities.
  • Fill Sora's item slots with Potions, Hi-Potions, Ethers, or stronger recovery items when available.
  • Use elemental resistance accessories when a boss relies heavily on a specific damage type.
  • Save at the nearest Save Point before entering obvious boss arenas.

A good ability and item setup usually matters more than gaining several unnecessary levels.

Keyblade Rankings

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Keyblade Tier List

Keyblade performance depends on more than raw Strength. Reach, maximum MP, critical properties, and when a weapon becomes available can make a lower-Strength Keyblade more useful for a specific build or stage of the game.

Boss Strategies

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Boss Guide

Boss battles reward defensive timing, proper ability selection, and knowing when to stop attacking. The suggested levels below provide comfortable targets, while strong Guard, Dodge Roll, Cure, and aerial-combat fundamentals can allow experienced players to win earlier.

Lv 7-10 · Traverse Town - Third District

Preparation

  • Equip Potions
  • Use Lock-On to keep individual armor parts targeted

Strategy: Destroy the separated limbs while staying mobile, then focus attacks on the torso when openings appear.

Dangerous: Spinning body and limb attacks

Counter: Move outside the spin radius, then attack when the animation finishes.

Leveling Guide

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Leveling and EXP Farming Guide

Normal story progression provides enough EXP for the main campaign, but optional bosses and level 100 require dedicated farming. The most efficient route changes as stronger worlds, Coliseum cups, EXP-boosting equipment, and repeatable endgame encounters become available.

Choose Your EXP Curve

Level 1-100

Where: Destiny Islands

Method: Sora's answers to Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie determine how quickly required EXP increases.

Choose the early-fast curve for easier early progression, the balanced curve for steady leveling, or the late-fast curve if level 100 is the main goal.

Early Story Leveling

Level 1-20

Where: Traverse Town, Wonderland, Deep Jungle

Method: Clear Heartless encounters naturally instead of skipping rooms. Re-enter populated areas when a few extra levels are needed before bosses.

Prioritize learning core defensive and mobility abilities rather than performing long early-game grinds.

Use Tech Points

Level 10+

Where: Any suitable enemy encounter

Method: Parries, projectile deflections, and other successful counters award Tech Points that count as EXP.

Equip Tech Boost when available to increase the value of successful technical counters.

Coliseum Progression

Level 20-40

Where: Olympus Coliseum

Method: Complete unlocked cups and repeat battles while advancing through Agrabah, Monstro, Atlantica, Halloween Town, and Neverland.

Coliseum battles provide dense combat with very little travel time between encounters.

Midgame World Farming

Level 30-50

Where: Neverland and later story worlds

Method: Clear high-density Heartless rooms while collecting missed treasure, Trinities, and Dalmatians.

Combine EXP farming with completion tasks so levels increase without a separate grind.

Hollow Bastion Runs

Level 40-60

Where: Hollow Bastion

Method: Run through Heartless-heavy castle areas after enemies become available during the later Hollow Bastion visits.

Hollow Bastion enemies provide stronger EXP returns than most earlier worlds.

End of the World Farming

Level 50-70

Where: End of the World

Method: Fight late-game Heartless such as Invisibles, Angel Stars, and Neoshadows while also collecting synthesis materials.

This route combines EXP farming with Gale, Stormy Stone, and other endgame material farming.

Equip EXP Boosts

Late game

Where: Equipment and synthesis setup

Method: Equip EXP-boosting accessories obtained during progression and synthesis before starting long farming sessions.

Keep EXP equipment equipped whenever survivability is already comfortable.

Rock Titan Farming

Level 60-100

Where: Olympus Coliseum, Hades Cup

Method: Repeat the Rock Titan encounter after the Hades Cup becomes repeatable. Rock Titan is easy to defeat quickly and awards a large amount of EXP.

Use high-Strength equipment and aggressive aerial combos to shorten each clear.

Ice Titan Tech Farming

Level 60-100

Where: Olympus Coliseum, Gold Match

Method: Guard Ice Titan's ice projectiles back at him to repeatedly earn Tech Points while damaging the boss.

Equip Tech Boost and focus on consistent projectile deflections instead of rushing the fight.

Prepare for Optional Bosses

Level 70+

Where: Endgame

Method: Finish synthesis, upgrade Curaga and Aeroga, equip Second Chance and Leaf Bracer when available, and stock Elixirs or Megalixirs.

High levels help against Kurt Zisa, Phantom, Ice Titan, Sephiroth, and the Final Mix-exclusive Unknown encounter.

Level 100 Cleanup

Level 80-100

Where: Olympus Coliseum and End of the World

Method: Alternate fast Rock Titan clears, Ice Titan Tech Point farming, and material runs through End of the World.

Use whichever repeatable route your current build clears fastest while finishing remaining synthesis and optional content.
